Aggressive Biting

Aggressive biting in cats is the second most common behavior problem with marking territory being the first.  This can range from biting your toes, to aggressively attacking the owner, to attacking other cats. Some cats can even have displaced aggression taking out their aggression on inanimate objects. Biting is a common problem owners have and this can be due to several things, from a cat learning that if they bite the owner's toe they get attention, to not knowing that they should shield their teeth when they play.
Cats are prone to many behavioral problems, many of which can be prevented by giving your cat a stable environment in which to live. Remember simply playing with your cat daily even for fifteen minutes will give them a chance to burn some extra energy and hopefully stay out of trouble.

Some ways to deter this behavior are
  • Trim His Claws or use Soft Claws for Cats (it will take time to train so protect yourself)
  • Say "Ouch" loudly and clearly when he bites and slowly remove you hand DON'T pull away it will remind him of prey trying to escape and he will clamp down harder.
  • Grasp him by the scruff of the neck and push him toward the ground while saying NO hold for 3 to 4 seconds and release.  This mimics the mother cats form of punishment and is extremely effective.
  • Redirect His Attention your cat may be bored offer a play object or interactively play.  The top interactive cat toy is Da Bird.  Don't play rough with your cat this will encourage biting.
  • Know you cats tolerance level.  Some cats love being pet but only when they ask for it and for limited amounts of time.  If your cat bites after three strokes stop at three.
Learning how to train your cat not to behave this way is the only way to stop the behavior.
